Posted October 16, 2026
Award celebrates BHK’s commitment to building local pathways into the early childhood education profession
October 2026 — Western Upper Peninsula, Michigan — BHK Child Development (BHK) has been recognized by Michigan Works! with an Employer Champion Crystal Award for its efforts to expand U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship opportunities in the Upper Peninsula.
BHK leadership and apprentices were recognized on September 29, 2026, for their work in developing local pathways into the early childhood education (ECE) profession. BHK’s registered apprenticeship program reflects its commitment to supporting individuals as they build careers in early childhood education while addressing the need for qualified early childhood professionals throughout the region. By combining employment with hands-on learning and training, the program provides an opportunity for individuals to develop their skills while contributing to the care and education of young children in their own communities.
With 13 locations serving Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw counties, BHK has created an accessible, high-quality pathway for individuals interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education. To date, BHK has trained and employed six individuals through the program, with a new cohort preparing to begin soon.
“BHK has been a pioneer for non-traditional occupation programs in the U.P. and registered apprenticeship programs in Early Childhood Education. Congratulations to BHK and your newest group of graduates! We’re proud to partner with you and hope to see your efforts continue to grow’, said Michigan Works! Talent Manager Megan Boddy.
BHK is proud to partner with Michigan Works! to expand career opportunities and strengthen the early childhood workforce.
